Black & Decker ICR505 First Impressions Cord-Reel Iron with Nonstick Soleplate Reviews
9 of 9 people found the following review helpful Worst iron I have ever owned!!!, November 6, 2009 By This review is from: Black & Decker ICR505 First Impressions Cord-Reel Iron with Nonstick Soleplate (Kitchen) My title says it all. I have never been so tempted to hurl an appliance across the room as I am when using this iron! It has a shut-off feature which kicks in after 8 minutes of non-use. Sounds like a great idea, but it never knows when to turn itself back on! It's supposed to have an internal motion sensor so that when you pick it back up, it starts reheating again. That RARELY happens though. I have stood there shaking the heck out of this thing, up and down, side to side, in a circle, mid-air figure 8s...nothing works! I tried turning it off, then on again, but to no avail. The only way I seem to be able to get it to acknowledge my presence is to unplug it and plug it back in. What a pain in the butt! And then this morning, the final straw. Right in the middle of ironing, I mean ACTIVELY ironing my pants, and the damn thing shuts itself off! It gives me the 5 little warning beeps and then starts cooling down. So not only are my pants still wrinkly, now they're also... Read more
4 of 4 people found the following review helpful Cheap but not worth the price, January 9, 2011 By This review is from: Black & Decker ICR505 First Impressions Cord-Reel Iron with Nonstick Soleplate (Kitchen) This was a very cheap iron ($25) and it wasn't even worth that. After two weeks I sent it to Goodwill Industries. (I hope that isn't a sin). The non-stick soleplate dragged over the material and frequently created wrinkles rather than removing them.
My primary use of an iron is to press off a shirt each morning before work and occasionally freshen the creases on a pair of slacks. This is not the tool.
I bought this as a cheap replacement for my $80 Shark whose electronics went wonky. BAD DECISION!!!
Cord Reel - The only thing on this iron that pleased me
Nonstick Soleplate - Lies, lies, nothing but lies. It often grabbed the material and dragged it into a ridge which I then pressed permanently into the shirt. The best way I found to use this iron was to pick it up, place it on the shirt, hold it there for a few seconds, lift, reposition, repeat.
Steam - lots of it, enough to steam up my glasses but emptied quickly. Steam amount was based... Read more
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful Stopped Working Way Too Fast - A Waste of Money - Waste of Star, December 23, 2011 This review is from: Black & Decker ICR505 First Impressions Cord-Reel Iron with Nonstick Soleplate (Kitchen) I owned this iron for five months before it stopped working, (the first iron I've owned to stop working this fast). This was a replacement for a Rowenta I've owned for years. Didn't check the reviews/reports on this one, had I done that I wouldn't have purchased.
Pros: Cord-Reel, (cord stores inside iron); descent length cord, (93")
Cons: Had to clean it more often, compared to other irons I've owned; sometimes it dripped and sputtered; the water filling port AND fabric/heat setting reference are on awkward/annoying/inconvenient places on the iron.
They say you get what you paid for...well, I didn't on this one, I didn't get to use up all my money. The Black & Decker ICR505 is being replaced (with the Rowenta DG-5030, will review in the near future). You know what? A blessing in disguise, because I've wanted a Steam-ironing System, and more my speed, (sewing, quilting, pressing, ironing, fusing interfacings, etc.).
